explore the often controversial subject of using quilts to aid in the escape

lecture for our teen membership in that it demonstrates that not everything

The Wonderful 50s – Change, Change, Change” Lecture
Join us as Gordon Williams, of Newtown, gives us a glimpse at the
social history of the blissful 50s when veterans came rushing back to
fill jobs and colleges, business was booming and more people could
afford homes and cars. GM was king. Television was
transforming America and everyone loved Lucy! Yet not all was
perfect…

barrels served as containers for dry goods and liquids. Neil Muckenhoupt of Chaplin, CT will
demonstrate the process of making a wooden barrel or tub. Come join us for a look at this antique
craft. |

Luci Anne Lavin, Director of Research & Collections at
the Institute for American Indian Studies, will describe the complex tribal
societies of Western CT’s indigenous communities just prior to contact with
Europeans, the effect of European settlement, and their survival
strategies. Select artifacts from the
institute will be on display.

Vintage Baseball and Bat Demonstration

Michael Paes and Ray Shaw, both of Newtown and members of
the Sandy Hook Vintage Baseball Club will join us for a day of baseball. Visitors will learn about the differences
between not only the game of yesterday’s baseball versus today’s, but also
the equipment used Michael, also owner
of Bull Dog Bats, will demonstrate his skill in crafting vintage baseball
bats.

“The U.S. Marines in Vietnam” Lecture
1st
Lt David Montgomery, a former Marine, will give a historical overview
of the United Sates Marines participation in the war in Vietnam. He
will also share his personal experiences as a former artillery officer
who operated near the borders of North Vietnam and Laos , including the
Tet Offensive. |
