OPEN HOUSE AND LIVING HISTORY DEMONSTRATION
The Society's museum will be open featuring a presentation from Jim Degen of Brookfield. Mr. Degen will be joining us along with his portable lathe to present a woodturning demonstration. Woodturning is a form of woodworking that is used to create wooden objects on a lathe. Woodturning differs from most other forms of woodworking in that the wood is moving while a stationary tool is used to cut and shape it. Costumed docents will be available to answer questions and give guided tours of the house. Please watch The Newtown Bee for details.

Monday April 12, 2010 Connecticut raconteur Robert Berthelson will trace the first 100 years of photography from its first timid appearances through Matthew Brady's great Civil War photographs to the advennt of color photography. This will be Berthelson's third appearance before the Historical Society and his lectures are always well received.

OPEN HOUSE AND LIVING HISTORY DEMONSTRATION
The Society's museum will be open featuring a presentation from Gary Gittings of Seymour. Mr. Gittings, one of the regions best-known horseshoe blacksmiths, known as a farrier, will talk about what materials are used and how it is done, while he actually shoes his horse. Costumed docents will be available to answer questions and give guided tours of the house. Please watch The Newtown Bee for details.

Monday May 10, 2010 John Babina, with experience in building and hydrology, will give a guest lecture on the history of the Stevenson Dam. By dislocating the local population and rerouting water channels plus normal buildings problems, the building of our local dam turned out to be more of a problem than imagined. Fortunately, it all turned out well.
